Ben Wilson

ben wilson This is the blog of a one Ben Wilson, a Louisville, Kentucky native who enjoys baseball, beer, music, bikes, things that fly and good food. By day he pushes pixels and makes the Internet happen for a local advertising agency. His wife, Kelly is an Ironman, and his baby Amelia is the cutest thing ever.

Cameron Crowe’s latest film, Elizabethtown, will rock for more than a few reasons:

  • It was shot on-location in E-town, here in Kentucky.
  • There are ear x-tacy bumper stickers.
  • My Morning Jacket not only plays in the movie, but some of them have speaking roles (and allegedly they play “Free Bird”)
  • Cameron Crowe is awesome.
  • Mary Jane from Spiderman is in it!
  • Legolas is in it!
  • And finally — any movie that has any of the characters sporting an Ale-8-One t-shirt meets with my HIGHEST of approvals.

Ale 8

  6. My wife and I went downtown here in Etown for over 12 hours. Orlando Bloom came out a lot. He was super nice. Cameron Crowe came out a lot as well and talked. Kirsten Dunste didnt really talk much. We did get all three of their autographs on a map of Elizabethtown. I cant wait to see this movie!

  7. I just watched that featurette and there is a scene where they are at Otter Creek Park sitting on a wall looking at the river. Thats where we got married!

  9. When Orlando Bloom came over, my wife asked him what his Elfish eyes saw. I wanted to curl into a ball and die. He just smirked. He was probably thinking “dumb ass”

  10. That *is* the nerdiest thing you could say to him.

“Hey ‘Lando! I’ve got a paper bag here! I was wondering if you could get in it.”

    “Why?”

“I want to see if you could act your way out.”

    “Dang.”

Now *that* would have just been mean.

  12. At least Mr. Crowe fired Ashton Kutcher and replaced him with Orlando Bloom
Its hard to say if Mr. Bloom can really act because we really havent seen him in a movie that requires him to do so.

  13. Although he sniveled pretty well in Troy and was acceptable in Kingdom of Heaven. I think this is his first non-period movie.

“Elvish eyes…” Wow. I revel in that nerdiness. You should have seen me at the Chicago Comicon; and those people aren’t even really famous!

  15. ok, so did people see this movie? I just got around to watching it. beyond the fact that I felt like I was watching 3 different movies, I had a hard time concentrating because I was trying to figure out why he was driving by Slugger Field and UofL if he was on his way from the airport to Etown. am I just forgetting my geography?
At least he got schooled on how to pronounce Louisville.

  16. i’ll admit it! zac tiesman, who is from E-town says that it’s actually not possible to drive from E-town to Nashville in 45 minutes, either….

So yeah, he was taking the scenic route. I guess it’s better than driving past the landfill and the Ditch Witch dealership…

  17. The movie says you can drive from E-town to Nashville in 45 minutes??? Yeah, if you are driving like 150mph. That is like a 1.5-2 hour trip. Come on, how else would they be able to smush in all the scenic stuff in Louisville if he just hopped in the car and got right on 65? Now, the one the he WOULD have seen that way is “Gobel’s” – subtitled “Girls Girls Girls.”
