Ben Wilson

ben wilson This is the blog of a one Ben Wilson, a Louisville, Kentucky native who enjoys baseball, beer, music, bikes, things that fly and good food. By day he pushes pixels and makes the Internet happen for a local advertising agency. His wife, Kelly is an Ironman, and his baby Amelia is the cutest thing ever.

thanks to memepool, i stumbled upon The Big Cartoon Database, which is something of an IMDB for ‘toons.

Anyway, years ago I remember watching The Wabbit Who Came to Supper on a cheap VHS tape full of cartoons — and I SWEAR i saw Bugs Bunny’s lower regions as he steps out of the shower! However, this FAQ says otherwise.

Mark my word, I shall find this out!

The staggering amount of protest at Boyd County High School against the formation of a Gay-Straight Alliance only underlines how truly backward some parts of Kentucky are compared to the rest of the United States.

Well, for the kids at Boyd County High School causing all the trouble — I give you a hearty “two punk rocks and a HELL YEAH!”

Check out the KY Chapter of the ACLU for more information on this case.

so i was searching google to find an electrician here in louisville and i stumbled upon a quick guide to anarchy and anarchists in Louisville, Kentucky. when they speak of “the United States’ largest inland shipyard”, they mean Jeffboat (hey! Corvus designed that site). In any case, i found it interesting that such anarchist movements still existed.

It would seem that this group of “anarchists” are actually a group of Industrial Workers of the World members. The IWW seems to be pretty radical in its ideals — “the abolition of the wage system” is their motto, though something tells me that most of the folks who belong to the IWW are OK with the more conservative “A fair day’s wage for a fair day’s work,” until they are on strike, anyway.

While some folks, especially in management would like to see groups like the IWW disappear, I still hold that radical elements keeps idealism fresh.

Oh yeah, I still need an electrician…

so, i took a full dose of what i thought was DayQuil last night. Kelly handed me the 2 green caplets (that should have been the tip-off that it was in fact the “real deal”), and I swallowed them, hoping the pseudophedrine would dilate my bronchi, as I was experiencing some rather odd asthma-like symptoms.

Long story short, i downed the caplets, kissed Kelly good night, and did a couple of computer-related errands, and went to sleep. When I rose this morning, I felt a little flu-like, sorta weak, disconnected feeling. I got to work, still feeling that way, and then Kelly called to ask if I was feeling better. “Sure, I feel better, but I feel a little weak, like I have to flu.” “Well, the half-dose I took just wore off an hour ago,” says Kelly. “What? Did you give me a full dose of NyQuil?” I inquired. “Well, it was NIGHT, after all,” she responded.

Well, point being, i took the mickey last night at about 11:00 PM or so, and here it is, a full 12 hours later, and I feel like I’m about 2 pints to the wind. I’m breathing like never before, though !

Penny-Arcade‘s Tycho is such a goo writer, that sometimes I forget to read the comic. Listen to a great interview with Jerry and Mike (Tycho and Gabe) at Planet GameCube.

  • The Strokes rock-steady. At first, I wasn’t sure if they rocked. Repeated listening has made me feel ashamed for thinking so.

  • Morningstar Farms, despite being owned by Kelloggs, has a tasty Hearty Chik’n'Vegetables Pot Pie — a vegetarian faux chicken pot pie. Tasty, and low-fat.

  • The one thing that ties all Americans together, and one thing we can all agree on is that it is a great privilege and right to vote. Now — why was it so hard to find out where to vote?.

  • The Foo Fighters have returned. That’s all I’m saying. no one has a fit like i do — i’m the only who fits you

first up, kelly and i went to the St. James Art Fair here in Louisville earlier this month. It was crowded, and I thought my camera broke, but it didn’t, thankfully

then the next weekend, we went to Harvest Homecoming in New Albany. Kelly and I browsed the stuff, and choked back the bile upon hearing “Deep Fried Twinkie” or “Deep Fried Candy Bar”. Well, we were actually choking back the vomit from goint on the Plane-A-Whirl or whatever the hell that ghastly contraption was. We weren’t set right again until the next day — that’s all i know.

Of course, the next day was Sunday, so we played baseball! This time with Matt Rasnake (of bipolar fame). Good stuff! Fun was had — and Matt, who previously mentioned “I hate baseball”, was quoted as saying “this is fun”. Tee-hee.

Whew! Well, this past Tuesday, we went to go see Ben Folds in Lexington at the Singletary Center. Great stuff, that!

And finally, tonight we went to see Project Improv at the Kentucky. Every time I see these guys they get better. They are playing every Thursday, too. $5, and an opening Gala on November 7th!

    clownshoe

what do you think of when i say the word “clownshoe”? Probably a giant bulbous shoe worn by a costumed entertainer, right? Well, also consider using this word in a manner in which you never considered — the derogatory. The profane!

That’s right, you clownshoe! See, there, I just used it. Now, don’t got clownshoe on me. Clownshoe exudes overdone, overblown, silly, fake, whatever. Just try interjecting it in your work this week. TRUST ME, it will turn heads. “So, Johnson, what do you think of our new management material?” “Well, frankly, I wouldn’t trust that pearly white clownshoe to make my coffee much less manage this slaveship of gooners”.

    you’re welcome

Woody Harrelson has written an editorial at theGuardian.uk discussing his distaste at the U.S. government’s policy on Iraq, foreign policy, and the similarities in thought of the US and UK public.
